MAYOR IMPARTS WORDS OF WISDOM TO 2015 MATRICULANTS

More than 900 matriculants from the various schools in uMngeni descended to the Howick West Indoor Centre for the Prayer Day for Matriculants recently to receive divine intercession ahead of their final examination. The initiative, a brainchild of uMngeni Municipality Mayor, Mbali Myeni, seeks to arm learners with the power of prayer for their final examinations. The Prayer Day was filled with motivation speeches, guidance on careers and presentations by various tertiary institutions luring learners to enroll at their higher institutions of learning. The Mayor reminded the learners that the opportunity to obtain good results that would in turn set them on a good trajectory for their career choices depended on them. “You have an opportunity to improve your lives. Do it for your parents and your communities and when you are successful don’t turn your backs on them. You must uplift them. Your success is not yours alone,” said Myeni. The Mayor relayed to the learners that is important to assist family, loved ones and the community when one has achieved and is successful, citing that she personally had to financially contribute for her sister’s education. “It is all in your hands. Make sure that you produce the desired results and go after your dreams,” added Myeni. Representatives from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Durban University of Technology and UKZN shared with the learners the courses that they offer. The energetic event, directed by veteran radio personality, Alex Mthiyane of Gagasi99.5 FM, saw learners from the various schools taking to the stage and displaying their music abilities and talents. Succeeding the speeches and entertainment was the lighting of candles led by Mayor, symbolizing that their paths would be bright as they prepare and write their exams, after which a  prayer led by pastors from various church denominations followed, requesting the Almighty to guide the learners during their examinations. The Mayor concluded that the learners should use every opportunity during their exams to study and surrender themselves in their books as that would contribute immensely in attaining the desired outcome.
