EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT FACILITY FOR WARD
uMngeni Municipality Ward 3 Councillor, Cllr James Zondi together with representatives from Divine Life Society, Community Chest, uMngeni Municipality and uMgungundlovu District Municipality conducted a sod-turning ceremony to officially mark the launch of the state-of-the-art early childhood development facility recently.
The facility which will be complete with resources and trained personnel is part of the Nelson Mandela Day Marathon legacy project. The establishment in Ward 3's Zenzani Village is one of seven such projects to be undertake in all seven local municipalities under uMgungundlovu District Municipality.
The facility in Zenzani Village will be built at a total cost of R450 000. The bulk of the funding amounting to R300 000 will be contributed by Divine Life Society while R150 000 will be proceeds from the Nelson Mandela Day Marathon.
The training of personnel for the establishment will be conducted and cost borne by Community Chest.
The sod-turning was preceded by a prayer and the depositing of symbolic ashes of Sri Swami Sivananda as well as the dropping of water from the holly river in Himalayas.
Councillor Zondi commended the initiative stating that it will go a long way in shaping the future of children in the Ward and surrounding areas.
“We are proud and privileged as Ward 3 in that we will be the home of such an establishment,” added Zondi.
The facility is expected to be completed later in the year or early next year.
