LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE STUDYING IN CUBA TO BE DOCTORS
uMngeni Municipality Mayor, Mbali Myeni, imparted words of wisdom to young people who are studying towards obtaining qualifications to be medical doctors in Cuba. Fikiswa Galo from Tumbleweed and Lindokuhle Gwala from Mafakatini area were hosted by Myeni to brief the Mayor on their studies. Galo, Gwala and Amanda Mnikathi from KaHaza have been studying in Cuba since 2013 and returned home for the first time since then on their vacation in August. “The Municipality is very proud of you. The communities you come from are proud of you as well as your parents. We have faith in you that you will complete your studies without any hindrances. This is an opportunity of a lifetime seize it and make the best of it,” said the Mayor. “There are a lot of temptations awaiting young people, stay away from such. These include drugs and alcohol. You must concentrate on your studies and make sure that you fly the flag of uMngeni, KwaZulu-Natal and your country high by leading by example,” added the Mayor. Imparting wisdom to the female students, Myeni said advised them that they must look after themselves and not allow themselves to be distracted as that may lead to pregnancies that may delay their studies or even destroy their chances of becoming doctors. “Such opportunities come but once in a lifetime. These are opportunities that usher your young lives into adulthood,” added the Mayor.
