The success of Ward 4's War Room in impacting positively into the lives of the poor people in Lidgetton, Lutchman, Curry's Post, Gamalethu and other areas within the Ward had earned Councillor Sthembiso Nkuna accolades from far afield as the Free State province.READ MORE
Nkuna was tasked by the KwaZulu-Natal Office of the Premier to host the Premier of Free State, Ace Magashule and his cabinet as well as district and local mayors from that province, and show them the ropes of implementing a successful War Room through the provincial government's Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) programmes.
The Free State government has a similar initiative known as Operation Hlasela and that government wanted its MECs, District and local Mayors to ascertain best practices from the OSS programme for incorporation into the Operation Hlasela.
Nkuna outlined how his War Room deals with community concerns and how households are profiled.
uMngeni Municipality Mayor Sizwe Sokhela said that the government in all its spheres must share and by the same token learn from best practices for the betterment of the lives of South Africans.
“This cooperation and exchange of information and ideas rings true government’s mantra that Together We Move South Africa Forward. The commonalities that exist between the work undertaken through Operation Sukuma Sakhe and Operation Hlasela are ingredients that must be interconnected in the continued government’s pursuit for a Better Life For All,” said Councillor Sokhela.
