In a milestone event for local social development, His Worship the Mayor, Chris Pappas, officially signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with seven prominent local Non-Profit (NPO) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating within the uMngeni Municipality area.
This strategic partnership marked a significant leap forward in the Municipality’s commitment to fostering collaborations that drive growth, transformation, and sustainable development across all wards.
The selection of these seven organisations followed a transparent and thorough process. Each NPO / NGO submitted a detailed proposal outlining their specific areas of impact. These proposals were rigorously reviewed and subsequently approved by the uMngeni Municipal Council, forming the legal and operational basis for the agreements signed recently.
Collectively, these organisations will work alongside the Municipality to enhance the work that they do, reaching deep into the fabric of the community where municipal resources often need specialized support.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Chris Pappas expressed his deep appreciation for the selfless dedication of these organisations.
“The uMngeni Municipality deeply values the indispensable role played by our NGOs and NPOs. These organisations are often the first responders to social challenges and the last line of support for our most vulnerable residents. I want to commend each of you for the tireless work you do. By joining forces, we are not just signing a document; we are building a more resilient and compassionate uMngeni,” said Mayor Pappas.
The seven organisations that joined hands with the Municipality represent a diverse range of social, environmental, and economic focus areas:
• Phila Ududuzeke Community Development: Focusing on grassroots social upliftment.
• Merrivale Heights Resident Forum: Strengthening community safety and local infrastructure.
• uMngeni Unemployed Graduates Forum: Driving youth empowerment and economic inclusion.
• Zenzeleni Project: Fostering self-reliance and community-led development.
• Love Howick: Leading urban renewal and social transformation.
• uMngeni SPCA: Ensuring animal welfare and public safety.
• Love Notties (Love Nottingham Road): Promoting environmental beauty and sustainable tourism.
This partnership demonstrates a proactive dedication to working collaboratively with local experts. By aligning municipal goals with the agility and specialized knowledge of these NGOs and NPOs uMngeni has ensured that service delivery is more inclusive, effective, and sustainable for all its residents.
